Glenn Heights Police Officer Struck by Car

A Glenn Heights police officer who was airlifted to a Dallas hospital Wednesday evening after being struck by a car while working at a crash scene is in good condition.

Cpl. Thomas Chaney, a 17-year-veteran of the police department, was directing traffic on the eastbound side of Farm-to-Market Road 644, also called Ovilla Road, at Dorothy Lane when a westbound vehicle struck him.

Chaney was flown by medical helicopter to Methodist Dallas Medical Center in serious condition, according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

In an update Thursday, Glenn Heights police said Chaney's condition had been upgraded to good. He has several lacerations, abrasions and at least three fractures.

Police said neither the driver nor a passenger in the vehicle that struck the officer was injured.

The driver who hit the officer stopped to help and is not expected to face any charges.

The department thanked the community for the outpouring of support for Chaney.
