As North Texans wondered how they could help after two Dallas police officers were shot outside a Home Depot Tuesday afternoon, Assist the Officer stepped up to accept donations to help officers who serve and protect Dallas.
The Assist the Officer Foundation is a non-profit that collects donations on behalf of the Dallas Police Department. The foundation says every dollar raised goes directly to families and officers facing loss of income due to serious injury, life-threatening illness or other catastrophic event.
"When an officer is injured, a setback can bring financial ruin – especially if the officer is the sole provider for a family. During recovery, the last thing an officer should have to worry about is how he or she will make ends meet," the ATO website says.
