Federal disaster response officials are opening Rio Grande Valley offices to help hundreds of homeowners whose property was damaged in some of the area's worst flooding in a half century.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is set to established centers in Raymondville and Weslaco next week, and has already set up an office in San Perlita.
Agency officials also are visiting homes of residents who may qualify for federal assistance.
Hurricane Patricia's remnants brought nearly 20 inches of rain to parts of Willacy County in October, sparking flooding that has lasted weeks in some areas.
Federal officials have already identified nearly 200 Willacy county homes that were damaged by flooding and high winds. President Barack Obama declared it and 14 other counties disaster areas, making them eligible for FEMA funds.
