Federal Drug Agent in South Texas Charged in Child Porn Case

A Drug Enforcement Administration agent in South Texas has been accused of downloading child pornography.

James Patrick Burke of McAllen remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing Thursday.

FBI agents on Friday searched Burke's home and confiscated his laptop computer. He was arrested on a charge of knowingly accessed with intent to view child pornography.

A criminal complaint says the case involves the viewing and downloading of videos of children as young as age 10 having sex with adults.

Burke had been with the DEA's office in McAllen for two years. A spokesman says Burke, who made an initial court appearance Monday, was put on administrative leave following his arrest.

No lawyer attorney could immediately be located Tuesday to speak for Burke, who requested a court-appointed attorney.
