Dallas Stars Extend Contract of GM Nill

Dallas Stars officials announced Friday that they re-signed General Manager Jim Nill to a five-year contract extension.

The 57-year-old Nill is in his third season with the Stars, who lead the Western Conference with 62 points on the season. Their record of 29-10-4 marks the best start in franchise history after 43 games.

"We feel he is one of the best general managers in our league and we are thrilled he is so committed to us," Stars owner and governor Tom Gaglardi said in a news release.

The team has amassed a record of 110-72-25 and earned a playoff berth in 2013-14 under Nill.

"Developing and maintaining a winning organization is something I look forward to over the next seven years," Nill said. "My wife, Bekki, and I love the area and we truly call it our home."

Since joining the Stars, Nill re-shaped the team with the hiring of coach Lindy Ruff, trading for players like centers Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza and drafting future stars like defenseman Valeri Nichushkin.

"Jim has helped instill a culture of excellence within our organization," Gaglardi said. "Extending that partnership to 2022-23 is vital for the direction of the hockey club."

Terms of the deal were not released.
