Vasari LLC, a Dairy Queen franchisee, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday.
The franchisee owns and operates more than 70 Dairy Queen locations in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Under the bankruptcy plan, the company has already closed 22 restaurants, leaving 45 open. Earlier reports showed that two locations in North Texas, Cedar Hill and Carrollton, were slated to close. However Vasari LLC says no decision on the remaining stores that are open has been made.
In the bankruptcy filing, Vasari LLC states that many of its restaurants are in prime "oil country" and the locations have struggled to survive the far-reaching effects of dramatic decline in oil prices. The statement goes on to add that several stores were negatively impacted by Hurricane Harvey, which resulted in physical damage, extended closures and loss of inventory.
