Frisco police say a 53-year-old Allen man charged with theft allegedly posed as a potential homebuyer and toured homes.
Detectives said Steven Eric Breed would tour a house and steal valuables while the real estate agent was in the other room.
Police said a real estate agent showed Breed a home Wednesday. Breed called the agent the next day and asked to tour the home again. The agent checked Breed's name on a real estate agent database and noticed that police wanted to talk to him.
Frisco police said officers found stolen jewelry valued at roughly $6,000 when they met Breed at the home.
Investigators familiar with the case said they believe Breed might have been stealing the jewelry and selling it to pawn shops or to scrap gold outlets.
According to Frisco detectives, investigators from Highland Park, McKinney, Allen and Fort Worth were interested in talking to Breed about similar incidents in their cities.
Highland Park police detective Marty Nevil said Breed was a suspect in a similar crime that happened in April. Nevil also said detectives tried to talk to Breed after his arrest in Frisco, but said Breed didn't cooperate.
