A police chase in Rowlett early Monday morning ended with the fleeing driver hurt and another motorist dead, police say.
According to police, they were called to a home around 4:45 a.m. in the 1700-block of Cumberland Road in Garland after a 23-year-old man was reportedly throwing bottles at the home.
When police responded, the man took off.
Police said an officer was dragged for a short time, but not injured, while trying to stop the fleeing driver.
Additional officers started chasing the man down Miller Road.
According to police, the driver then ran a red light at Rowlett Road and collided with another vehicle, killing 52-year-old Solomon Asfaw, of Garland.
Meanwhile, the man who had been fleeing from police had to be pulled out of his burning car by Garland police officers. He was then taken to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas where he is listed in critical condition.
Joe Harn, with the Garland Police Department, said the man faces charges of making a terroristic threat, intoxication manslaughter, evading arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer.
Harn said alcohol may have been a factor in the incidents.
