Carrollton police said they received a disturbance call at a home on the 4200 block of Wichita Drive at about 1 a.m. after the estranged son broke down the front door. When officers arrived, the son was sitting in the doorway.

The responding officers tried to talk the son out of the home, according to City of Carrollton spokeswoman Jolene DeVito. Instead the son reached for a gun and the officer shot him, police said.

The man was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Carrollton. Police said he is expected to survive.

No officers were injured.
