Buckner Park Begins a New Chapter

Residents of Old East Dallas are welcoming the new and renovated, historic Buckner Park.

The park, which was established in the Dallas park system in 1914, was undergoing a $2 million, year-long renovation project that was funded by the Bond Program in 2006.

“There’s both a social need, a recreational need, a health need for the kids that live in the neighborhood,” said Willis Winters, Director of Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

Residents can now enjoy a loop trail, open athletic fields, a pavilion, a playground, lighting, and a renovation to the tennis court.

The Dallas Park and Recreation Department also worked with Dallas Independent School District to provide a new drop off lane and additional parking in front of the Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School.
