A girl has died and a woman remains missing after they disappeared while riding a horse in the Texas Panhandle where heavy rain left areas flooded.
The Hemphill County Sheriff's Office says the search resumed Tuesday for 24-year-old Marquita Medrano of Canadian.
The body of 7-year-old Emily Purcell of Canadian was recovered Monday night in a semi-flooded area near the rain-swollen Canadian River.
The National Weather Service in Amarillo says parts of the Texas Panhandle received up to 4 inches of rain on Sunday.
Emergency personnel were notified Monday night that the girl and woman were missing. Searchers near a highway bridge found the horse but no riders. The child's body was located a couple of miles south of the span.
Investigators didn't immediately say any relationship between the riders.
