Thousands Race For the Cure in Fort Worth

An estimated 17,000 people attended Saturday's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Fort Worth's Sundance Square.

Survivors, supporters, and those effected by the disease joined together to walk in the 17th annual 5k to raise money for local breast cancer research groups.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer 8 years ago, had a mastectomy and chemotherapy and I'm a survivor," said Barbara Ridenour, who entered the race.

The goal of the race was to raise $750,000 and donations will be accepted through the end of April. Seventy-five percent of the money raised will stay in Tarrant County in the quest to find a cure for breast cancer -- as well as prevention education.

"Anything suspicious, go to your doctor, follow up, because that way you have your wife with you, your husband, who ever you love to be around for a long, long time," warned George Glaz, an oncology nurse whose wife, Tatiana, is a four-year cancer survivor.
