Authorities said a teen was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle while running toward a Fort Worth middle school Wednesday morning.

The 14-year-old girl had just been dropped off near William James Middle School and was running across the street toward the school when a parent who had just dropped off their child struck her, according to Fort Worth police spokesman Daniel Segura.

The victim ended up under the car with a possible broken leg, according to Fort Worth police. She was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Fort Worth police said they will charge the driver with failure to yield.

NBC 5's Josh Ault contributed to this report.

Editors note: Initial reports indicated the victim was a teen boy. Police later issued a statement saying the victim was a girl.
