TEA Finds Schools Violated Law on Students With Disabilities

Texas Education Agency's investigation into four school districts following allegations that students with disabilities were being pushed out of school through truancy courts found violations of federal law, including not always properly evaluating such students.

Three nonprofits filed a complaint in May against 13 Texas districts over the treatment of students with disabilities. The complaint said students were being pushed out in various ways, including being forced into GED programs.

TEA decided to investigate only four of the districts. One district wasn't reviewed because it revised its policies.

The districts investigated were Houston, Fort Bend, Pasadena and Clear Creek. The last report was issued last week.

Houston and Fort Bend said Thursday they're addressing the findings. Clear Creek is asking for reconsideration. Pasadena did not immediately comment.
