Suspect in 3 Deaths Returns to North Texas

Thomas Taunton is currently being held in Louisiana

A man suspected in the shooting deaths of three people whose bodies were found behind a North Texas barn has waived extradition and been returned from Louisiana, where he'd been arrested.

In a statement issued late Monday, Fannin County Sheriff Donnie Foster said Thomas L. Taunton was booked earlier in the day into the Fannin County Jail in Bonham, 64 miles northeast of Dallas.

Taunton was arrested last week near Shreveport in the deaths of 73-year-old Harold Harpst, 79-year-old Sue Harpst and 48-year-old Regina Taunton.

The victims were reported missing Thursday from their home near Leonard, about 60 miles northeast of Dallas. The bodies were found Saturday a few miles from the home.

Taunton was arrested Thursday in Stonewall, La., after his truck broke down.

Autopsies showed all three died of gunshot wounds.

The suspect's attorney didn't immediately return a message.
