Six Thrown From Boat During Charity Event

Six people were injured when a boat overturned on Lake Ray Hubbard during a charity event on Saturday.

They were ejected when the boat they were in tried to make a sudden turn without slowing down, Dallas Fire-Rescue said.

Witnesses said the driver of the boat may have been going too fast for his experience level and for the maneuver. Michael Lyons said the boat was probably traveling between 90 and 100 miles an hour when it tried to turn too sharply.

"I think its drives were up, which caused the drives to skip, and it just kind of cart-wheeled, everybody in the boat was ejected," he said.

Fire-Rescue crews said bystanders in different boats assisted the six people to shore.

All six people were transported to local hospitals to be checked out. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

The boat was participating in the Ray Hubbard Powerboat Association's annual Spring Poker Run Charity Event.
