Sigma Chi has closed its University of Houston chapter for at least four years as campus police investigate allegations of hazing.
The fraternity's executive committee, in a statement Monday, said Sigma Chi members at UH were not living up to "values of the organization."
Fraternity officials say they look forward to maintaining a positive relationship with UH and returning to campus after summer 2019.
University police on Wednesday referred requests for comment to a school spokesman, who didn't immediately return messages.
Sigma Chi in January learned of allegations "of inappropriate pledging activities" at its Houston chapter, indefinitely suspended the chapter and notified school officials. UH in March suspended the chapter and five student members amid the police investigation.
Hazing is a class B misdemeanor. Conviction carries a six-month jail term.
