One Killed in Irving Wrong-Way Crash

One person is dead after a wrong-way crash in Irving.

Investigators said the crash happened about 10:45 p.m. Monday.

According to witnesses, the driver who was killed in the crash entered the southbound lanes of Loop 12 going the wrong way at Shady Grove and almost immediately collided with an oncoming 18 wheeler.

The wrong-way driver killed in the crash has been identified as 25-year-old William Harrington of Irving.

The driver of the big rig was not injured.

Police said the impact of the crash was so intense the semi's steering axle broke and its fuel tank was ripped off.

A second crash happened a short time after the first, but the driver of that car was not injured.
