One Dead in Gun Battle With Fort Worth Police

Father of two critically injured in shooting

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured in east Fort Worth Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened on the 2000-block of Beach Street and Interstate 30 at the Trinity Hotel just after 4 a.m.

Officers were called to the hotel by the manager after he heard gunshots. Police say a hotel guest staying with his two sons got into an altercation with another man who was not a guest at the hotel.  During the altercation, the guest was shot.

When officers arrived, the suspected gunman opened fire on the officers, according to police. An officer returned fire, hitting the suspect and killing him.

The officer was not injured.

"We believe that the victim in this case, the father that came out and confronted the suspect, is in the hospital with what appears to be a gunshot wound, possibly from the suspect in this case," said Sgt. Pedro Criado, with the Fort Worth Police Department.

The father shot in the initial confrontation was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital where he is in critical condition.
