Officer Hurt After Dallas Chase Ends in Collision

Dallas police said an officer was injured after a chase and a crash on North Central Expressway on Friday night.

Police said the pursuit began as a low-speed chase near Ledbetter Drive and Lancaster Road just after 8 p.m. after a disturbance at a grocery store. Police said they attempted to pull the man over, but he refused to stop.

The chase ended in a collision where North Central Expressway crosses over Gaston Avenue near Interstate 45 and Interstate 30. Police said the man hit a squad car that was trying to hold back traffic. The squad car then collided with the side wall, police said.

The officer in the cruiser sustained cuts to the head and a possible concussion. He was transported to Baylor Medical Center, where was in stable condition Friday night and was expected to recover.

Police said they have a man in custody.

The incident may raise further questions about the department's chase policy. Last week, the controversial policy fell under scrutiny after a pursuit ended next to a busy runway at Dallas Love Field.
