    Northbound Interstate 35E is shut down in Denton after a woman was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler, according to police. (Published Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017)

    Police say a 60-year-old woman was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler on northbound Interstate 35E in Denton, shutting the interstate down for several hours Thursday morning.

    The woman was possibly trying to cross I-35E when she was struck near Dallas Drive just before 1:30 a.m., according to Denton police spokesman Bryan Cose. It is unclear why the woman was on the highway.

    The woman's identity has not yet been released.

    The driver of the semi stopped at the scene and is cooperating with police, Cose said.

    Northbound I-35E was reopened just before 7 a.m.
