Man Killed on Bush Turnpike in Grand Prairie

A man has been killed after being struck by a vehicle in Grand Prairie Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Lonny Haschel with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the victim towing a trailer on the back of a Chevrolet Tahoe when he pulled over to the right shoulder on southbound President George Bush Turnpike near Shady Grove Road just after 2 p.m.

The man got out of the sports utility vehicle to secure a box spring that had come loose from the trailer.

While outside of the vehicle, he was struck by an Izuzu Box Truck traveling south in the right lane.

The driver of the Izuzu immediately stopped and pulled to the shoulder.

The man died at the scene. His name has not been released.

The driver of the Izuzu was not injured.

The left two lanes are open, but the right lane is expected to remain closed for some time as the investigation continues.
