Police east of San Antonio said a 21-year-old man appeared to be acting in self-defense when he fatally shot his father during the weekend.

The Victoria Advocate reported that Christopher Waligura initially was taken into custody following the shooting Saturday evening, but was later released.

Darrell Waligura, 46, was shot in the torso outside the family home in Yoakum, about 90 miles from San Antonio. Neighbors said he appeared to be drunk as he paced up and down the block while holding a knife.

Yoakum police Chief Karl Van Slooten said he was found in the front yard of his home with four gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
