Keller Parents Push for Track at Elementary School

Parents in Keller ISD will spend the last weeks of summer hard at work.

Students at Lone Star Elementary School do not have a track to exercise and run on. When PTA moms found this out, they decided to raise the money to build them a track.

“The track will benefit the school’s running club,” said Shanna Scott, who is a member of the PTA. “Not only the students, but everyone in the community will be able to use it. The soccer team, football teams, families in the area will be able to take advantage of it."

According to school administrators, when there is rain in the area, the track floods, and it takes up to two weeks for the water to subside. The track will also be a unique addition to the area.

“It is very rare because they are pretty expensive,” said Steve Hurst, principal at Lone Star Elementary. “Unless you have a middle school or a high school, you won't have a track. You'll have a playground, some swings, maybe basketball hoops, but you typically wouldn't have a track because it’s a big expense."

Parents predict it will take approximately $200,000.00 to build the track.

They have raised $21,000.00 through 5k runs and other fundraising activities.
