Amarillo police are investigating the death of an infant who died after being bitten by a dog.
Police tell the Amarillo Globe-News officers were sent early Monday morning to a local hospital after an 11-day-old baby was brought in with the life-threatening injuries. The infant later died at the hospital.
Police said an autopsy was set for Tuesday in Lubbock.
Lt. Eric Bohannon tells The Associated Press that they have nothing to indicate it was anything other than the dog attack that caused the baby's death. He could not say how many times the child was bitten.
Police describe the dog as a pit bull/mastiff mix.
Bohannon said that the dog was taken by animal control and euthanized.
