Houston Police Shooting Kills Man

Officer shoots man who refused to show hands

A man Houston police say refused to show his hands was shot dead after he reportedly whirled towards an officer with his hand hidden in his shirt.

A police spokesman says no weapon was found after the shooting about 4:30 p.m. Monday at a strip shopping center parking lot.

Spokesman John Cannon said two officers answering an assault-in-progress call, arrived to find a small group and ordered them to stand for questioning.

When one man began to walk away, an officer told him in English and Spanish to stop and show his hands. Cannon said the man refused, then whirled with one hand hidden and drew the officer's fatal fire.

The officer, who has less than two years on the force, is on administrative duty pending investigation.
