Governors of states along the Gulf Coast want President Barack Obama to stop the U.S. Air Force from potentially moving eight planes used in disasters to Montana.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Air Force is considering budget cuts that could affect eight C-130 Hercules planes now based in North Texas for the Texas Air National Guard.
Those planes could be moved in two years to Great Falls, Mont.
C-130 planes have been used after hurricanes to carry supplies and rescue workers. If they are moved, it could take days -- instead of hours -- to mobilize them in a disaster.
The governors of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas signed the letter. Congressmen from the states are also questioning Air Force officials about the proposed move.
