Gas Line Ruptures in Downtown Dallas

A gas line break in downtown Dallas has prompted street closures, but not evacuations.

The line break is at 1530 Main Street near the Joule Hotel and not far from the Neiman Marcus Building.

Officials said construction workers using a backhoe on a sidewalk hit the 4-inch line.

Dallas Fire-Rescue blocked off a large section of Main Street between Ervay and Akard and are on standby while they wait for the gas company to deal with the leak.

HAZMAT measured the concentration levels of the natural gas and determined the readings were not high enough to warrant a mass evacuation.  However, 40 people at the hotel did self-evacuate, officials said.

So far there have been no evacuations and no reported injuries.
