A North Texas grand jury has declined to indict a former deputy police chief who fatally shot a German shepherd that may have mauled his cat.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the Tarrant County grand jury decided Thursday there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute Kenneth Flynn for animal cruelty. The 30-year Fort Worth police department veteran retired Oct. 31 after being charged in the Sept. 29 slaying.
Flynn originally denied shooting the dog, but later told investigators he used his city-issued gun to kill the dog, which had escaped from its yard. Flynn said he shot the dog after his wife heard from a neighbor that it had been standing near the dead cat.
Flynn's attorney said the case was politicized and that the jury followed the law.
