Grassfire Breaks Out Near Lone Star Park

Fire could burn for a few more days

A large brush fire broke out near Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie late Sunday, but firefighters said it is under control.

Lyle Gensler, Grand Prairie public information officer, said brush ignited in a field being cleared for construction along Beltline Road.

Gensler said that despite the large, visible flames, firefighters were able to limit the fire to "a couple of large piles of brush."

"The fire is now considered to be a 'controlled burn' and will be burning for the next couple of days," Gensler said.

The city said Lone Star Park, the popular horse racing park, is not threatened or affected by the fire.
