Family of Man Shot by Dallas Police Officer Demands Change

Family says victim was chasing suspected robbers

The mother of the man shot and killed by an off-duty Dallas police officer is speaking out, saying she wants change.

Police said Desmond Luster, 45, drove his pickup truck toward the uniformed officer at a high rate of speed, leading the officer to shoot him.

Luster’s family said he was actually chasing three men who were seen running out of his home with bags.

"He was a great husband, he was an excellent son, and a dynamic father to his children," the Rev. Donald Parrish said of Luster.

Dallas police have not commented on the incident near the Flying J truck stop along the 7400 block of Bonnie View Road since it occurred on Monday, Feb. 9.

Luster’s family is represented by former Dallas District Attorney Craig Watkins, but have not yet filed a lawsuit.
