Driver Crashes Into Antiques Store, Drives Away

Search under way for driver

Police are searching for a driver who they say drove into an antiques store near downtown Dallas, then backed out, and kept driving.

Police said witnesses followed the car a few blocks away, where the driver got out of the car and took off on foot.

Police have taken the car to look for evidence.

The incident took place at about 3 a.m. in the 2500 block of Oak Lawn at the Richard Hecht Antiques store.

Hecht said he has insurance and is hoping to open his shop again very soon.

"I'm not going to worry about it," Hecht said. "Things could be a lot worse."

While the outside of the store suffered extensive damage, Hecht said only a few items inside were damaged an that he plans to open as soon as he can.
