Crowson Named Arlington's New Fire Chief

Arlington has a new fire chief.

On Friday, City Manager Jim Holgersson announced that Assistant Fire Chief Don Crowson was selected as the new chief.

Crowson replaces former Fire Chief Robin Paulsgrove, who retired in May.  Since that time, Crowson has been the interim chief.

"Don is a proven leader who has come up through the ranks and is well respected by both the community and Arlington firefighters. This was not an easy task for our selection team. Competition was tremendous," Holgersson said. "His innovative approach to the challenges facing Arlington and his ability to articulate thoughtful solutions set Crowson apart from other candidates."

Crowson, who is a certified firefighter with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration and Fire Prevention Technology,  was selected from a field of more than 50 national candidates.  He has been a member of the Arlington Fire Department since 1983.

"While I’ve spent my entire career in the Arlington Fire Department, being Fire Chief is a unique responsibility and opportunity," Crowson said. "It requires a completely different perspective, and I look forward to working together with our firefighters and stakeholders to take the Arlington Fire Department to the next level."

Crowson will begin his position on July 26.
