A dog and her nine puppies are safe after being rescued in Fort Worth.

Crews with Fort Worth Animal Care and Control located a 3-year-old German Shepherd-mix on Monday in South Fort Worth.

They could tell the dog had recently been nursing, so they wanted to find her puppies.

On Tuesday, a tracking collar was placed on the dog and crews took her back to where they found her in hopes of locating her babies.

The dog, now named Holly, took them right to her litter of nine - underneath a shed.

Two members of FW Animal Care and Control crawled under the shed - in the rain - to save each puppy.

One by one, they were able to rescue the pups, but Holly ran away.

The Shepherd-Rottweiler mix puppies were taken to Fort Worth Animal Shelter.

On Wednesday morning, a crew went back to the same shed and found Holly, the puppies' mother.

    They've all been reunited.

The puppies are believed to be 4 to 5 weeks old.

The pups and Holly will eventually be available for adoption.

In the meantime, the shelter is looking for a non-profit rescue group or an experienced foster family to take them all out of the shelter environment until the puppies are older.
