Check Cashing Customers Shot, Stabbed

Two men, armed with a gun and a knife, targeted customers at a Dallas check cashing and payday loans business overnight Wednesday.

Just before midnight a man, his wife, and their young child were driving away from PL$ Check Cashers & Loan Store at 2100 S. Buckner Blvd., when the gunman opened fire on the family inside their car and hit the man in the chest and arm.

He drove to a Shell gas station several blocks away at Jim Miller and Interstate 30 to get help.

Police said the attackers likely were trying to rob the family but got upset because of a language barrier between them.

Then just after midnight, police said the two armed robbers went back to the check cashing store and stabbed another man in the shoulder who had just cashed a check. The robbers got into a struggle with the victim and did not get any money, but one robber got away with the victim's red Ford Escort, while the other fled in a black SUV.

The check cashing business is open 24 hours a day. It has surveillance cameras throughout, so police will be reviewing the video to try to identify the suspects.

Both victims were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
