Boy, 11, Shows Pride as Father Becomes Fort Worth Officer

The Fort Worth Police Department graduated a new class of cadets this month. The men and women in Class 144 are now on the streets serving and protecting the citizens of the country's 16th largest city.

The day Tyson Akers got his badge was one he'd dreamed of for some time.  He moved his wife, Amanda and sons Brayden and Lane from Iowa to Texas to become a police officer.

Amanda Akers said Brayden, 11, "was completely against" it and "has struggled with the move from Iowa, leaving behind our tight-knit community (population less than 1,500) and lots of friends, to come to what seems like a never-ending city.

Yet, through the transition, "the one thing that hasn’t changed is Brayden’s love and support for his dad," she wrote. And it was all apparent the day Tyson Akers graduated from the police academy.

"His dad gave him the honor of pinning his badge on during the ceremony," Amanda told NBC 5. She sent us a picture saying, "the moment captured shows how proud of  his dad he is."

"We have been met with open arms from our neighbors, schools, coaches and the police department," she wrote. Amanda also joked that with graduation, "Brayden almost forgives us for the move."

"We are doing everything we can to show him the opportunities that the DFW area has to offer," she wrote. "We look forward to serving the community that has welcomed us with open arms."
