Man Arrested, Accused of Setting 3 on Fire in Oak Cliff

A man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing bodily injury after Dallas police say a witness told them he poured a liquid accelerant on three people and set them on fire in Oak Cliff Tuesday night.

The three people set on fire, two men and one woman, were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, Dallas police said.

Police arrested Floyd Benson, 46, Wednesday after he was taken to an area hospital for his own burn injuries.

First responders were first called to a report of an aggravated assault at a home along the 3900 block of Mehalia Drive. The arrived to find smoke coming from the building, police said.

The flames had mostly burned out as firefighters arrived -- only an isolated area in the living room was burned.

Police said as many as seven people were in the house at the time of the fire, and that Benson used a lighter to start the blaze.
