3 Dead in Central Texas Helicopter Crash: DPS

The Texas Department of Public Safety says three people are dead after a helicopter crashed in rural Central Texas.

The DPS says authorities following an emergency beacon discovered the wreckage and bodies Friday morning in northeast Kendall County, about 80 miles west of Austin.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the crash involved a four-passenger Robinson R44 helicopter.

Names of the victims haven't been released.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Matt King says the helicopter set off from Midland and stopped to refuel in Fredericksburg, about 20 miles from the crash site. It had been headed for Seguin, about 70 miles to the southeast.

DPS Trooper Jason Reyes says a pilot spotted an emergency locater beacon transmitting in the area Thursday night. Searchers found the wreck around 07:45 a.m. Friday.
