A major North Texas highway reopened several hours after being shut down because of a fiery wreck in Hurst.
Officials said an 18-wheeler caught fire in the 100 block of Northeast Loop 820 at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Hurst police officials confirmed that a driver of a pickup truck stopped on the flyover of Loop 820 at Texas 121 because the driver thought there may be ice on the road.
The 18-wheeler approached the stopped truck and swerved to miss it, but hit the truck, lost control of the rig, jack-knifed and hit a guard rail. When the semi slammed into the guard rail, it began to leak diesel fuel, which sparked a massive fire.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to a hospital. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
All of the southbound lanes of Northeast Loop 820 at Texas 10 were closed for nearly five hours. The lanes reopened at 9 p.m.
Officials said no ice was found on the roadway.
