Dell to Pay for Customer Complaints

Texas among states to settle with computer giant

Round Rock-based Dell Inc. said Monday it reached a settlement agreement with attorneys general from 46 states, including Texas, and will pay $3.85 million to settle consumer complaints.

The agreement will provide refunds to customers and cover the costs of investigations into past marketing practices.

The settlement will cover complaints about different offerings Dell provided up to four years ago, the company said, including problems with a no-interest financing plan, next business-day service contracts, warranty services and rebates.

A Dell spokesman said the company worked with attorneys general to resolve the complaints and noted that the agreement did not stem from any lawsuit.

Texans who believe they incurred additional costs on or after April 1, 2005, because of the practices described above may be eligible for reimbursement under the agreement.

Texas consumers have until April 13, 2009 to complete a restitution claim form by clicking here or by calling (800) 252-8011.

Dell has agreed to contribute $162,500 into a restitution fund for these claims and is reimbursing the state $62,500 for its attorneys' fees and costs.
