Trendy Joule Hotel Expands

The trendy Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas will get a big expansion under plans endorsed by a city council committee Monday.

We told you in September that the owners of the Joule bought five downtown buildings.

Under the plan owners will renovate those five vacant buildings, two to the east of the current hotel on Main Street and three to the south, behind the current hotel, on Commerce Street.

The project will bring 32 new hotel rooms including eight suites and two penthouses to the Joule Hotel and 11,000 square feet of banquet, catering and meeting space as well as 20,700 square feet of retail space.

In order to ease traffic on Main Street, a new driveway entrance will be constructed on Commerce street.

A city subsidy of $20 million would support a $76 million investment from Joule's developers.
