Victory Park Turns Into Artopia

A big burrito o’artsy fun

Our friends at the Dallas Observer are hosting a posh party this weekend in celebration of local art this weekend called Artopia.

"Artopia will be a fresh mash-up of visual art, culture and entertainment in Dallas," according to artist Billy Zinser, who joins a slew of artists contributing works to the event.

Here’s a breakdown of artists involved: Brian, Gibb, Bee Things, Tony Bones, Blakely Dadson, Brent Ozaeta, Decade, Fur Face Boy, Steven Hopwood-Lewis, Lilco Letterpress, Taro Kun, Mark Nelson, Mylan Nguyen, Jeremy Smith, Sour Grapes and Magnificent Beard.

Whoo, that’s a mouthful. Speaking of a mouthful, entry fee into Artopia covers both food and drink at the shindig.

We can’t wait to see artist Billy Zinser’s debut of his 20-foot-tall MACRODON inflatable character (based on his small plastic art-toys).

What exactly is a MACRODON? Here's a theory.

Modeled after the clichéd used car dealership inflatable purple gorillas, Zinser’s MACRODON will temporarily transform Artopia into an instant art exhibit that's anything but stuffy and serious.

"Not only will Artopia be an incredibly fun event for art lovers, but there will also be many components of the event that will inject interest and excitement for many other viewers as well -- including the giant 20 feet tall Macrodon sculpture, live art installations and t-shirt screen-printing, fashion, music performances, and more," Zinser said.

Are you still not clear on what to expect? Go experience it first-hand this weekend, then!
