Fans Brave the Cold and Crowds for Air Jordans

Long lines form at Dallas-area malls for limited release sneakers

With temperatures plunging, sneaker fans waiting for the latest pair of Air Jordans are running on adrenaline outside the Foot Locker in Cedar Hill’s Uptown Village.

Lines started forming around the store on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Hordes of shoppers hope to score a pair of the limited release Concord sneakers, when they go on sale sometime after midnight.

“It’s gonna get down to 38 degrees, but we're looking forward to it, it’s fun,” said Paul Castillo, of Cedar Hill.

Three stores in Uptown Village will sell the throwback sneaker to the 1995 model Michael Jordan wore in the NBA playoffs.

Air Jordans have an iconic following. Last December 23, Mesquite police used pepper spray to calm the crowd at Town East Mall, as close to 500 people tried to force their way into Foot Locker for another limited-release.

In Cedar Hill, they're not expecting Jordan fans to get out of control -- or even out from under their hoodies and blankets, given the chilly temperatures.

”We all get along,” said Castillo. “We’re just keeping each other company, it’s been a good last couple of days.”

In Cedar Hill, Champs will open at midnight, Foot Locker at 6 a.m., and Finish Line at 8a.m. The Concords sell for about $180 a pair.
