Woman Fatally Shot in Oak Cliff, 78-year-old Relative Charged With Murder

A woman was fatally shot in her home Wednesday night after intervening in an argument, police said.Dallas police responded to the scene at 1245 Serenade Lane in the Singing Hills neighborhood of southeast Oak Cliff around 9:40 p.m. where they found 63-year-old Grace Mathis dead.After executing a search warrant and talking with witnesses, police arrested her brother-in-law Willie Boy Elder, 78, and charged him with murder, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.Authorities said they determined the fatal shooting happened after Mathis intervened in an argument between Elder and another man in the home.The two men were fighting over property when Mathis stepped in between them and argued with Elder about how he was talking to the other man. Police said Elder then pulled out a handgun and shot the woman and also shot at the other man who was not injured.Elder is being held in the Dallas County Jail and his bail is set at $250,000.  Continue reading...
