What Took So Long to Get a Rape Crisis Center in Southern Dallas?

Finally, help is on the way for victims of sexual violence in southern Dallas.We applaud Methodist Dallas Medical Center and the Turning Point Rape Crisis Center in Plano for teaming up to open the first rape crisis center for the area. In January, they'll start providing free counseling and advocacy services at the Golden Cross Academic Clinic in North Oak Cliff.This center is long overdue. And it will help fill a gaping hole in an area where too many other critical services remain scarce.Imagine suffering the trauma of rape and having nowhere close by -- or even located on a bus line -- to get help. Dallas should be ashamed that only now is the southern half of the city getting even one crisis center.The Methodist Dallas-Turning Point partnership is the kind of smart collaboration that can chip away at the decades-long inequities in mental and physical health care.  Continue reading...
