Two Drivers Killed in Wrong-way Collision on Bush Turnpike in Garland

Two drivers were killed -- including one going the wrong way -- in a head-on crash Thursday morning on the President George Bush Turnpike in Garland.It happened around 2:30 a.m. near Shiloh Road when Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were alerted to a wrong-way driver while they were conducting an unrelated traffic stop.A driver in a gray Honda Civic was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the turnpike, DPS spokesman Lonny Haschel said. Troopers tried to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful, and it collided head-on with a Ford Taurus heading west on the turnpike.The driver of the Honda died at the scene, Haschel said. The driver of the Taurus was taken to Medical City Plano and died later.A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Honda made a U-turn on the westbound side of the turnpike and began traveling the wrong way near Midway Road several miles from the crash site, Haschel said.The turnpike's westbound lanes remained closed as the investigation continued.  Continue reading...
