The Plan to Fix Texas School Funding Is More Poisonous Than We Thought

Our fears that the state legislature will fail on its most important job this session are growing stronger with each passing day.School finance reform is critical to the continued growth and health of the state of Texas.But the legislature, and specifically the state Senate led by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and with the apparent blessing of Gov. Greg Abbott, have presented a bill so flawed that it would represent a massive setback to needed reform.We have already outlined certain serious concerns with the bill Patrick pushed through the Senate -- especially the unaffordable and anti-conservative insistence that it include $5,000 across-the-board raises for every teacher and librarian in the state.  Continue reading...
