The DFW Workers Who Prepare Your Food on Flights Just Voted Overwhelmingly to Strike, If Allowed

Unionized Dallas-Fort Worth employees of airline catering company LSG Sky Chefs voted this week to strike over low wages and a lack of affordable health care.An overwhelming 99% of the workers, represented by the Unite Here union, authorized the strike -- which can't actually occur without a federal agency that regulates interstate commerce releasing the union from negotiations.The unionized workers are paid some of the lowest wages in the airline industry, at a time of record profits and healthy pay raises for other employees. And many of the employees are immigrants to the U.S.Hourly pay at LSG Sky Chefs can be as low as $9 an hour and nearly half of employees make $11.35 an hour or less, according to Unite Here.  Continue reading...
