Texas Educator Surprised With ‘Oscars of Teaching'

ARLINGTON - Jennifer Fuller’s boundless energy makes her the teacher students always want to be around.She not only works with them to improve their college applications and pushes them to think more critically on essays, the Arlington Collegiate High School teacher gives up her free time to help them with projects outside her class. She sponsors a running club where students know she’ll provide a friendly ear to listen when they need to talk.“She keeps pushing us and never stops,” said senior Stephanie Anene. “She doesn’t just teach. She does a lot of things outside the classroom. Gives advice. She’s like a friend, not just a teacher.”For Fuller, connecting with her students is just a natural part of teaching. But Wednesday morning - thinking she was attending an assembly for visiting dignitaries - the 37-year-old was surprised to learn she was selected as one of the nation’s best and will receive a $25,000 prize from the Milken Family Foundation.  Continue reading...
