Texas A&M's First Openly Gay Student Body President Vows to Improve Diversity

Texas native Bobby Brooks felt free to be himself in Paris, where he studied abroad after high school. But when he moved to College Station for his freshman year at Texas A&M University, Brooks once again became silent part of his identity.One day, he took a French friend at Texas A&M out to coffee and told her what he had been hiding. "Je suis gay," Brooks said he told her in French.That was freshman year. Now the junior economics major is the university's first openly gay student body president.It's a milestone for Texas A&M, which as recently as 2014 had ranked among the 20 least LGBT-friendly colleges in the U.S. as listed by The Princeton Review.  Continue reading...
